Kamala Harris: Killing Babies in Abortions is How You Measure “Progress”

Kamala Harris continued to promote the Biden administration’s radical pro-abortion agenda Friday in Iowa when she described legalizing abortion on demand as a “measure of progress.” The Messenger reports the Democrat leader made the comment during a “reproductive rights” discussion in Des Moines ahead of a major Republican fundraiser. Contradicting the U.S. Constitution and the Supreme Court, Harris asserted that killing unborn babies in abortions is a “right.” “We are a nation that has measured its progress and growth in many ways, including through an understanding that we are stronger through an expansion of rights, not a restriction of rights,” she said. The vice president criticized Iowa and other Republican-led states for restoring unborn babies’ right to life in response to the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling. The Iowa Legislature just passed a heartbeat law to protect unborn babies from abortion once their heartbeat is detectable, about six weeks of pregnancy, but a court recently blocked its enforcement. Ignoring the existence of unborn babies and the goal of the pro-life movement, Harris went on to claim that pro-life advocates are “playing political games with other people’s lives,” according to the report. “I do believe that we are witnessing a national agenda that is about a full on attack against hard-won, hard-fought freedoms and rights,” she said.

Harris also accused pro-life advocates of hypocrisy, pointing out that most Iowa counties do not have a OB-GYN. “So folks are passing these bans, meanwhile not paying attention to the fact that in two thirds of the counties, there’s not one OB-GYN,” she said. But pro-life laws are not to blame. The United States has had a doctor shortage for years, long before laws banning elective abortions went into effect, and some medical students say the real problem is the pro-abortion politics being pushed on the medical profession. Harris has made abortion a key issue of her role as vice president. She frequently speaks about it in speeches across the country and invites abortion activists to the White House to promote their life-destroying work. One of her main goals is to garner support for a national law to “codify Roe” and force states to legalize abortion on demand again. Pro-life leaders nicknamed the bill the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act because it would erase basically all abortion restrictions nationwide, including parental consent for minors, informed consent and bans on late-term abortions. In its first three years, the Biden administration has expanded abortions in ways no other president has tried, including by allowing abortion pills to be sold through the mail without ever seeing a doctor and forcing taxpayers to fund travel expenses and paid time off for military members and their families if they want an elective abortion. He is using Americans’ tax dollars to create a national abortion hotline, and cutting off health care funding for poor Americans in pro-life states because of their laws banning elective abortions.

The American people do not support abortions up to birth, paid for with their tax dollars. Numerous polls show strong public opposition to taxpayer funding for elective abortions and strong public support for laws that limit abortions, especially after the first trimester.
