Five Babies Brutally Killed in Abortions After 27 Weeks Still Haven’t Received Any Justice

Pro-life advocates with Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) have not given up their quest for justice more than a year after finding the bodies of five late-term aborted babies inside medical waste boxes in Washington, D.C. After their March 2022 discovery, PAAU leaders Terrisa Bukovinac and Lauren Handy said some of the babies appeared to be victims of illegal partial-birth abortions or infanticide at the Washington Surgi-Clinic, a late-term abortion facility in the capital. Later, city authorities took the five babies’ bodies, along with more than 100 other first-trimester aborted babies who also were in the boxes, the PAAU leaders said. As of yet, however, D.C. officials have not announced any actions related to the horrific discovery, despite repeated calls from U.S. Congressional leaders and pro-life advocates. In a new interview with Breitbart News, pro-life advocate AJ Hurley, a pediatric neonatal respiratory therapist, said he examined the babies’ bodies himself and believes there needs to be justice. “I worked at UCLA for about seven years, so I am used to seeing very small children. I can tell you every single one of those children were at gestational ages where they could have lived outside of the womb with little to zero help at all,” Hurley said. Based on his medical experience, he said some of the babies almost certainly were born alive and left to die in violation of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. There is “overwhelming evidence, prima facie evidence of infanticide,” he told Breitbart.

Based on his medical experience, he said some of the babies almost certainly were born alive and left to die in violation of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. There is “overwhelming evidence, prima facie evidence of infanticide,” he told Breitbart. “One of the babies was basically a full-term child. And to be honest with you, it was like looking into pure depravity,” said Hurley, the director of activism at Live Action “… how in the world could you ever do something to such a precious child? I think abortion is the most vile thing that we, as Americans, could potentially ever support.” In the case of one aborted baby, the child was still inside its amniotic sac, he continued. “So the question is … how in the world do you kill a baby and have it not come out alive, and it still be completely intact in an undisturbed amniotic sac?” Hurley told Breitbart. “It’s not possible.” The horrific discovery caught national news attention in 2022 and prompted calls for an investigation by prominent U.S. House and Senate Republicans. But the abortion facility remains open, and pro-life advocates suspect city authorities will not take any action against it. In March, on the one-year anniversary of the discovery, Bukovinac and Handy organized a press conference and protest outside the D.C. Board of Medicine to again demand action from city officials. “The DC Board of Medicine is conspiring with Mayor Bowser and the DCPD [city police] to cover up the gross medical misconduct of a killer in order to protect their own political careers. This is the opposite of leadership and justice,” Bukovinac said at the time. This week, when asked about the investigation, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department told Breitbart that they have an “open investigation” into the matter, but could not provide more details. Washington, D.C. allows unborn babies to be aborted for basically any reason up to birth, and the Washington Surgi-Clinic advertises abortions at “27 plus weeks of pregnancy,” which is long past the point when babies are viable outside the womb.

Years ago in an undercover investigation by Live Action, its abortionist Cesare Santangelo admitted that he “probably wouldn’t” help a baby who survives an abortion even though “legally we would be obligated to help.” He later backtracked on that statement in an interview with the Washington Post.

Then, in 2022, another undercover investigation found the abortion facility requires patients to strip to the waist and take mind-altering medication before meeting with the abortionist to obtain their consent for an abortion.

Last year, dozens of U.S. Congressional leaders joined pro-life advocates in demanding a federal investigation into Santangelo’s practice. However, some expressed doubts that the U.S. Department of Justice will do anything because pro-abortion Democrat officials with the Biden administration lead the agency.

Bukovinac said they are not giving up the fight, because babies and mothers deserve better.

“We will not give up until Santangelo is held to account and the people facing pregnancy decisions in D.C. are no longer prey to criminals like him,” she said.
